Funky house is an informal definition of a disco influenced subgenre of house music. It originated in Chicago Illinois (USA) as electronic dance music. In the 1980’s it became more popular and swept over other US states such as New Jersey, New York, Detroit and Miami before it reached Europe. It has been successful internationally since 1990.
The different styles of funky house music is: soul, disco, funk, post-disco, electro, electro pop and synthpop. It is usually played in raves and underground clubs. The first English funky house song came out in 1986 titled “Carino” by T-Coy which Europe gladly accepted. In the late 1980's house became infused with pop, techno and electro which was extremely popular in the UK. Record labels such as Ministy of Sound are popular for producing UK house and much of the sounds produced are still modern electronic dance music. In the UK origins are taken from UK garage, Latin and African music, contemporary R'n'B and soca music.
